Police continue to clean up streets from unlawful firearms, two suspects arrested

Media Statement NELSPRUIT- The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela continues to be encouraged by the outstanding work done by members of the police in cleaning up the streets from unlawful firearms thereby ensuring safety of citizens as well as their properties. The members at Matsulu apprehended two suspects, aged 32 and 42 respectively as well as confiscating a firearm with ammunition. Reports indicate that in the afternoon of today, 06 March 2022 police received some information about suspects believed to have been involved in a business robbery at PEP store in Matsulu on Friday, 25 February 2022 as well as a burglary at the same store on Monday, 28 February 2022. The members then followed up on the details as provided where they went to a certain house and found a VW Polo as well as two men. A search was then conducted by the members whereby a .38 revolver with three live ammunition was found inside a room. Further search resulted in the discovery of some cellphones, liquor, TV sets, as well as some shoes in the house. The said items are suspected to have been stolen during the reported robbery and the said burglary. Shockingly, these members also came across a police mask amongst the seized items. The suspects were then arrested and charged accordingly. As the investigation proceeds, the two may be linked to the said robbery as well as the burglary. They are expected to appear in the Matsulu Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 07 March 2022 facing charges of unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition as well as possession of suspected stolen properties. The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela also sent a stern warning to criminals that their time is over. “Police and the community are now working closely together to eradicate crime.
