Two suspects due to appear in court for theft of over R2.1 million conveyor belts
Two suspects aged between 29 and 42 are expected to appear in the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 08 September 2022. The duo was arrested during a multidisciplinary operation conducted on Wednesday, 07 September 2022.
This comes after Sasol employees detected the threat of theft of conveyor belts in January 2019 and the matter was reported to the Hawks for further probe. During the investigation, the suspects were identified and warrant of arrest was executed on Wednesday hence their arrest.
The joint police team which included the Secunda based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation, Secunda Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Hawks’ Priority Crime Special Investigation (PCSI ) based in Mpumalanga and Secunda K9 unit executed the operation in Springs, Emalahleni and Witbank respectively, with the purpose of addressing the threats of theft of conveyor belts.
More arrests are imminent.
