Truck and sedan collision leaves three people dead near Ngodwana

2 min read

The sideswipe collision between a truck and a Toyota Corolla sedan has claimed the lives of three women this afternoon around 14h30.

The crash occurred at Kaapsehoop turn off on N4 toll road near Ngodwana.  It is alleged that the truck, which was transporting potatoes, was coming from the direction of Mbombela towards Waterval Boven when it collided with the sedan.

The sedan was reportedly coming out of a nearby shopping center and it was entering the road at the time.

The deceased are all women and they were passengers in the sedan. They were certified dead at the scene.  One of the victims was flung out of the vehicle and she landed on the road surface.

The driver and the passenger, both males, sustained serious injuries and they were rushed to Rob Ferreira Hospital in Mbombela.

In another separate incident, on the same road, one person was killed yesterday evening when a truck and a minibus collided. Fourteen people were seriously injured.

The investigation into both crashes is already underway.  The Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Vusi Shongwe has once more urged motorists to obey the rules in order to avoid deadly crashes.  He advises motorists to always ensure that they enter highways and major roads safely.

” We will continue to implement various road safety and law enforcement initiatives, but motorists must respect the rules so that crashes are minimised,” says the MEC.

Shongwe is sending condolences to the bereaved families and is also wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
