Nelspruit: 31 March 2023- Three alleged dagga traffickers aged between 36 and 39 were nabbed with a large amount of dagga and they appeared in court today, 31 March 2023.
Their appearance comes after they were separately arrested yesterday, 30 March 2023.
In the first incident, two suspects were arrested between Amsterdam and Nerston Border Post. Police were conducting their normal stop and search duties when they spotted a white Toyota Avanza with two occupants. They stopped it and conducted a search. Dagga weighing 149,91 kg with an estimated street value of about R 600 222.00 was found inside the said vehicle hence the suspects were arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.
Nthuthuko Alfred Shelembe (38) and Wonderboy Climate Ndlovu (39) appeared at the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court where their case was postponed to 13 April 2023 for further investigation meanwhile the two remained in custody.
In the second incident, Bongani Dlamini (36), who is a foreign national from the Kingdom of Eswatini, was found with a suitcase on the N17 Road hitch-hiking. Police in Oshoek approached him and conducted a search. It was during this time when Police discovered that Dlamini was in possession of dagga inside the luggage he was carrying, weighing 4,6 kilograms. He too was arrested and charged with dealing in dagga.
The case against Bongani Dlamini was postponed to 17 April 2023 during his court appearance today, Friday 31 March 2023. Dlamini was remanded in custody.
In another separate incident, at Oshoek Boarder Post on 30 March 2023 at about 16h00, dagga weighing 102 kg was found abandoned by the police when they were on patrol duties.
