NELSPRUIT – A 44-year-old male suspect appeared in court today 14 June 2023 after being caught by the Police with a suspected stolen vehicle, Toyoya Rav 4 in Piet Retief yesterday, 13 June 2023.
Police in Piet Retief received information provided by their counterparts from Car Tracker about a Rav 4 SUV which was reportedly stolen on 10 June 2023 in Rosebank (Gauteng Province) and further details indicated that the vehicle was travelling around Ermelo towards Piet Retief direction.
Members responded to the complaint and the car was spotted and stopped.
During investigation, Simphiwe Collen Zwane who was the driver, alleged that he was going to deliver the vehicle to a buyer.
Police then requested for documents of the vehicle. It is also reported that the driver produced some documents which seemed fraudulent. He was then charged for possession of suspected motor vehicle as well as for fraud.
During Zwane’s appearance at the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 14 June 2023, the Magistrate posponed his case to 21 June 2023 for a formal bail application meanwhile he was remanded in custody.
Police cannot rule out possibilities of adding an extra charge of theft of motor vehicle against him pending the investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga SAPS, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has commended the good working relationship that was displayed by both the SAPS the Car Tracking team, efforts which led to the arrest of the alleged perpetrator.
