Elukwatini: Manhunt for 9 scammers who have defrauded over 5000 government workers
The Mpumalanga police are on the lookout for nine scammers who preyed on more than 5 000 government employees, including police officers, and persuaded them to invest their money with the promise of receiving returns ranging from 80 percent to 150 percent, according to the police.[/caption]
The group’s office was located in a mall in Elukwatini and drew people from surrounding areas such as Nhlazatshe and Ekulindeni, the name of their company is Mr Coin.
They also have offices in Carolina, Ermelo, and Dundonuld that employed and drew people from the surrounding area.
Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi explained that in order to gain the trust of the general public, In January, the group hold conferences in schools and distributed pairs of school shoes to children under the pretense of giving back to underprivileged communities.
On March 11, victims tried to make claims at the offices but discovered that they were closed.
The Hawks were notified and the matter was referred to them for investigation.
