Nelspruit: 19 May 2023 – The SAPS has cracked down on a certain security company for contravention of the Firearms Control Act as well as for contravention of the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) Act. Seven suspects aged between 33 and 48 were arrested in Masoyi last night, Thursday 18 May 2023 at about 19h00.
An Intelligent Driven Operation comprising of Anti-Gang Unit, National Intervention Unit (NIU) and officials from Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) was carried out yesterday (18 May 2023). It was during this operation when the team followed up on information about the alleged dodgy activities by the security company thereby recovering three pistols and a shotgun. Serial numbers were filed off in one of the recovered pistols. Members further seized about 18 live ammunition. Amongst those arrested are four security guards as well as three others who allegedly operated as security guards but without the prerequisites.
All seven suspects have since appeared in the Masoyi Periodical Court today, Friday 19 May 2023 where they were released on warning and they are expected to appear again on 20 June 2023.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has raised a serious concern following the arrest made whereby one of the critical stakeholders in the fight against crime is found to be faced with such damning allegations.
