PROVINCIAL COMMISSIONER WELCOMES A SENTENCE HANDED DOWN TO MURDERER
The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Manamela has welcomed a sentence that was handed down to a 33-year-old murderer. The sentence was imposed by the Mhala Regional Court yesterday, Tuesday, 19 October 2021 to a 33-year-old man.
The court sentenced Tumelo Proley Theko after the state presented a watertight case against him. It is said that on 10 March 2019 the accused had an argument with the victim which resulted into violence whereby Theko fatally shot 28-year-old Xolile Jele at a tarven in Shatale Zone near Bushbuckridge. After the incident, he fled the scene and went into hiding.
The matter was reported to the police at Bushbuckridge where a murder case was opened accordingly. An investigation was conducted by the astute members where a breakthrough was made when they arrested him in Carolina on 16 August 2019.
The accused was trialled and convicted hence his sentence to 15 years inprisonment for murder. Theko was further declared unfit to possess a firearm. The Provincial Commissioner further applauded the Investigation Team, The Prosecution and the Judiciary as they ensured that justice is served for the victim’s family.
