URGENT FLOOD ALERT: The bridge at Vreisgewaaght in Kwaggafontein.
Nearly 5 years ago, two people lost their lives at this very same bridge, following heavy rains that caused the bridge to flood.
A taxi attempted to cross the bridge. The taxi driver was rescued by a firefighter, who went back to rescue a trapped passenger, unfortunately both were swept away and their bodies were recovered downstream at 16:00 on 7 January 2017.
As at today, the bridge is still not fixed, despite numerous promises from local and Provincial government.
Motorists are warned to stay clear of the bridge, which is currently flooding as a result of heavy rains. Do not underestimate the depth of flooding on roads and don’t attempt to drive through any floods.
