JOINT FUNERAL FOR 9 MPULUZI STUDENTS THAT DIED IN CRASH
A joint service will be held for the 9 children aged between the ages of 5 and 13, from the Mpuluzi Circuit in Mpumalanga that has perished in an accident on the D267 road on 16 February 2022. The funeral service will take place on Thursday 24 February 2022 at 7am, on the Mayflower Stadium.
It is reported that the minibus, an overloaded and unroadworthy Toyota Quantum, that they were travelling in (scholar transport) lost control and overturned. The cause of the accident is still unclear, however a probe is underway.
7 Learners passed away on the scene, while another passed away in hospital. The lifeless body of the 9th student, was found on Thursday morning after a search involving the police, community and other stakeholders. The body was discovered near the scene of the accident and “It is believed that the body fell in the river upon impact and was trapped between rocks”.
Ten other scholars sustained moderate to serious injuries and they were rushed to the nearby Embhuleni Hospital in Elukwatini. In another report that has been released, 5 are still in hospital, of which 3 learners are still in critical condition.
Following the interventions by government, several departments have since provided the required support to the affected families and schools as promised by the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga’s Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Moeti Mmusi. Among others, ongoing psychological counselling is being rendered to families, learners and educators,” says Moeti.
The Nkambule family is mourning the loss of two of their children who died in the horrific accident.
The province conveys its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and wishes the injured learners to recover speedily.
