Four accused remanded in custody for trafficking in persons case
Four accused Cornelis Johannes Uys (60), Cornelis Johannes Albertus Uys (23), Carlos Bernardo Guambe (34) and Gabriel Bernardo Guambe (32) appeared before the Belfast Magistrate Court on Monday 11 July 2022 for Contravening of Sec 4(1) of the Prevention and Combating of trafficking in persons act. Act 7 of 2013 and Contravening of Sec 10(1) of the Prevention and Combating of trafficking in persons Act 7of 2013 participating or conspiring to trafficking in persons, for bail application.
The two, Guambes, Mozambican brothers, were also charged with contravention of the immigration Act. The bail application against the two brothers was abandoned and the accused were remanded in custody. Their case was postponed to 18 July 2022 for interpreter and plea.
The bail application against the other two accused, a father and son, Cornelis Johannes Uys (60) and Cornelis Johannes Albertus Uys (23), was argued by the defense and the case was postponed to Tuesday 12 July 2022 for further bail hearing. The accused remanded in custody.
