The National African Federated Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NAFCOC)
Mpumalanga, President Mr Sydney Kunene on Monday reacted with solace
on Eskom appointment of Mr. Bheki Nxumalo as head of generation,
describing it as assertion for black corporate excellence.
“Though it is premature to assume that the move was prompted by the
scathing report released by Minister of Electricity Dr Kgosientsho Ramogopa
after his visit to Eskom Power Stations, most of which are in Mpumalanga.
This appointment demonstrates that Eskom is serious about bringing to an
end the unenviable state of power generation in South Africa, and it might be
the signals of Eskom Board’s appreciation of the gravity of the situation,”
said NAFCOC Mpumalanga President, Sydney Kunene.
Kunene expressed hope that the appointment of a person who has immense
insides into generation, with a versatile skill set, is the only way to bring
about stability in Eskom’s compromised state of affair and poor energy
generation current conditions.
“Mr Bheki Nxumalo is lauded as one of the best executives in in the energy
sector and State Owned Enterprises (SoEs) whose skills, experience and
expertise spans over 20years in management, from junior levels to executive
placing him in good stead to efficiency and sustainability turnaround the
energy generation in the power utility,” he stressed.
He said that it is important for the appointment of suitably qualified individual
who grew up in the organisation and has enough corporate memory to
speedily and in a comprehensive manner address all existing systemic hiccups
and to inspire public confidence.
“He appealed to all internal and external stakeholders, to embrace Mr.
Nxumalo and give him undivided support to take South Africa out of this
energy quagmire.
