A 51-year-old husband appeared in the Delmas Magistrate’s Court for an alleged attempt to kill his wife, on Tuesday 13 June 2023. The case was postponed to 21 June 2023 for further investigation and for a formal bail application meanwhile the suspect remains in custody.Â
According to information, on 12 June 2023 around 12:30, the suspect who is a taxi operator, after offloading all the passengers in town, is believed to have been left with his wife. The couple allegedly started arguing on their way home.
On arrival at home, the victim tried to escape, but she was cornered and was allegedly assaulted before being dragged back to the house.
The husband allegedly tied her with cable ties and forcefully loaded her into the Quantum taxi.
According to the information received, the suspect drove to the R50 road heading to the nearby farm.
It is alleged that in the farm, the argument continued and it is alleged that the husband finally shot his wife in the stomach. She pleaded with him to take her to the hospital and he complied.Â
Police were summoned to hospital and the suspect was arrested and his firearm confiscated for further investigation.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has once again condemned the incident. “Domestic Violence cannot be tolerated in our society, family members who encounter problems, especially in their relationship should seek professional help rather than resorting to violence.
