Suspects appear in court for possession of suspected stolen property
NELSPRUIT – Two men aged 39 and 40 respectively, are due to appear before the Balfour Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 February 2022, facing charges of being found in possession of suspected stolen goods.
The duo’s appearance comes after their arrest on Wednesday, 23 February 2022 at Balfour. It is reported that members from Balfour SAPS were doing their patrol duties when they spotted two suspicious men hitch-hiking near R23 Road, carrying a mealie-meal bag. Police approached and searched the men and discovered chopped copper pipes inside the bag, weighing about 31 kg with an estimated street value of about R 5 000.
The suspects were then arrested on the spot on charges of being found in possession of suspected stolen goods hence their court appearance.
Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the copper pipes were allegedly stolen at Gert Sibande TVET College which is still under construction.
The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela is delighted by the vigilance displayed and the sterling work done by the members in making sure that the suspects were put behind bars.
