ANOTHER TAXI MAN GUNNED DOWN, MANHUNT LAUNCHED FOR SUSPECTS
NELSPRUIT – The police management in Mpumalanga, has ordered for an intensive investigation into the killing of yet another member from the taxi fraternity, after a 62 year taxi owner was gunned down in the evening of Wednesday, 05 May 2021, in Kwaggafontein.
Reports indicate that on the day, the man was walking in the street with his friend, few metres away from his house in a place called Tweefontein Extension (in Kwaggafontein). It is reported that a group of four armed men driving in a white BMW drove by and fired shots, fatally wounding the man. The suspects then made a U-Turn to ensure that he was dead. They reportedly fired more shots at the victim who was already lying on the ground and fled the scene thereafter. Authorities were notified about the incident and a murder case was opened hence the manhunt.
This incident occurred at a time in which the province has a high rate of such killings with notable number of suspects being arrested and appearing court. “Though we made some strides as we continue fighting to curb the trend and taxi owners, drivers, queue marshalls as well as taxi patrollers continue to be hunted down and killed. This situation has prompted us as police management in the province to dig deep in our investigation. However, we still urge members of the public to come on board and assist with information so that those who are responsible are swiftly brought to book, to prevent loss of life” concluded General Phahla.
