Tweefontein E – National Lottery visited the Ndzundza Fene Traditional council offices on the 5th of July 2018 to unpacked its social responsibility within various communities.

Lottery visit aimed, among others, focus on how Big Lottery Fund and Voluntary Community Sector groups can put people in the lead in their new funding programme (People and Communities). Several None Profit Organizations (NPOs) collapse due to financial constraints and lack of budgetary skills while the visit was welcomed in warm hands.

Chief Vincent Zweli Magobholi (32) from Nkangala JR461 Taarfontein, representing Bonakele Home base Organization, said he applied more than three times without getting assistance. What confused him adversely was the fact that some lottery officials demanded certain amount prior getting assistance from Lottery. “In such projects, it’s hard to get proper advice unless you pay them some money. Moreover they conversation today gave me clarity as to how to access financial assistance,” said Chief Magobholi.

The national lottery started their project of funding NPOs in 2014 when they noticed and recorded tangible facts that people were misinformed about their responsibilities. They decided to open information offices in all the 9 provinces so that people can access information easy during their workshops. In order to get financial assistance the NGO are required to use a standardized application to Lottery Fund Application; NGO should not change the scope of works as stipulated in the bidding documents for engagement with the consultant after awarding the contract; reimbursement of professional fees for lodging Lottery Fund application will only be recognized for successful application; no advance payment will be process before the approval of the entire works project.

Furthermore the documents required under the streamlined approach are: a completed application form for engagement of consultants for lodging application form. These includes standard template for invitation fee proposals (i.e. the draft bidding document; supporting information and documents such as photos of the premises, existing layout plans and drawings, etc, and consultant should be invited.

“I am in construction such requirements are too much and time consuming,” said Ntsimbi Masilela (31) a mining constructor. People are advised to go to the Ndzundza Fene traditional council office to obtain applications and get more information.
